I think in 2006, it was much more the openness people talking, but not really being understood. In 2008, I think it’s now the benefits of being more open, ranging from really concrete things like using a Creative Commons license on a video your organization is producing, to trying to be more transparent and make your data available for mashing up and stuff. That’s much more a part of the ether. The questions are more about how do I actually use a license, for example, in this particular context, as opposed to what is this and why is it relevant to me? I think we’re definitely on the right path.

With web 2.0, we’ve embarced the idea that people are going to share pictures of their cats, and now we build sophisticated tools to make that easier to do. as a result, we’re creating a wealth of tech that’s extremely helpful for activists. There are twin revolutions going on - the ease of creating content and the ease of sharing it with local and global audiences.

I think it would be cool to do an edgy monthly piece with them or similar magazine, but the demand needs to be clear. Letters to the editor is how you show demand.

So, to sum up: Take the minimum value out of the network to make it grow to maximum size to enable its members to charge more for their value while keeping costs and margins low to block competitors.
